OMEGA SEAMASTER, AUTOMATIC

Omega launched the Seamaster model in 1948 and it has gone through numerous iterations since. This lovely and simple time-only automatic version Reference 165.005 is in fantastic condition and keeping excellent time. Apart from a change of glass which the previous owner may have done, it all looks original to me. The two standout features are the very clean dial and the bright shiny Omega movement, calibre 591.

Its been a long journey to Omega’s modern Seamasters like the Planet Ocean or the 300, but this is no less a watch despite the near 65 year gap. The serial number dates this watch to 1960 and it comes on a nice simple black leather strap with an Omega buckle which matches the stainless steel of the case. The case itself is sharp and seemingly unpolished and is also on the smaller side of 33mm in diameter (excluding the crown). It is most definitely not a diver’s watch, but a smart and elegant dress watch originally designed to have a modicum of water resistance, but that is all.  I have no problem with smaller watches and there does seem to be a move towards smaller watches lately.
