OMEGA SEAMASTER 30
What another Seamaster ? Yes, but this is the lovely Omega Seamaster 30 with a gorgeous silver sunburst dial and the excellent calibre 286 and Reference 135.007-66. The Seamaster range began in 1948 and the highly successful watch model is of course still evolving. The first Seamaster 30 was introduced in 1962 and the ’30’ refers to the size of the movement, not a depth rating.
The ’30’ is hand-wound and this version is the calibre 286 (created in 1961), which is a 17-jewel movement with sweep seconds. The stainless steel case back features the famous Omega hippocampus, which is in good condition considering its age. It’s a really classic dress watch from the mid-1960s - with it’s thin indices and lovely clean sunburst dial.
The watch comes with a used, aftermarket leather strap but with an Omega buckle; not known if this is originally came with the watch. There are a few scratches on the case, unsurprising for a near 60 year old watch and there are more on the case back, which the images should show.
The acrylic glass has been changed at some time as it is not the original (they usually came with a tiny Omega logo etched in the glass). There is an Omega box and a service guarantee from 2010, but there is no corresponding serial numbers on the paperwork so I can’t say for sure that it relates to this watch. However, the watch is in great working order and is keeping really good time. As far as I am aware, the dial has not been refinished.
