Omega Geneve

£575.00

There are numerous varieties of Omega’s Geneve models. They really churned them out from the original dress models from 1953 and to this example from the early 1970s.

Apparently “Genève" was named after one of those original 30mm calibres that set records at the Geneva Observatory.  The range was cut short in 1979 and phased out.  There are lots of Omega Genève’s to collect but prices seem to be ticking up, too.  You can collect the rather staid but handsome versions from the 1960s or the funky 70s models like this and the fabulous Dynamic range, which I love and am trying to find a good example of at the moment.

This model has a gorgeous subdued blue dial with a date function and great crosshairs bisecting the dial.  The monocoque case is a cushion style and is 39mm across excluding the crown. To be honest it gets a lot of admiring glances and comments and most people have not come across anything like it before. The white hands are striking and ‘pop’ out of the dial. It’s obviously had a few knocks along the way and the case has a few dents, but because it hasn’t been polished you can still see the lovely mini-sunburst striations on the case and the edges are still sharp.

I can’t get into the watch without the help of a watchmaker as the bracelet detaches from the integrated case and special tools are needed - it says specifically Tool 107 on the case back. But, I’m fairly sure its a reference 166.081 with an automatic Cal. 565 (these calibres utilise the quick set date changing method of pulling the crown in and out). The glass is original, too judging by the Omega logo etched in the middle and the fact that it has that great dome shape.
