Zenith, Surf

£795.00

The 1970s proved a watershed moment for the old Swiss manufacture, Zenith (founded 1865). Watch designs were bold and innovative, but producers including Zenith nearly collapsed due to what was known as the ‘quartz crisis’. Before the onset of the momentous quartz change, one of Zenith's popular designs was the Surf model.

The one on sale here is a lovely example: with a chunky, octagonal, stainless steel case with a quick-set date and a lovely, slightly two-tone dial with the outer register a shade or two darker than the silvered inner dial. It also has a Zenith integrated bracelet which is extremely comfortable on the wrist. The service history is unknown, but it is keeping great time on the timegrapher and well within vintage watch timekeeping parameters.

The excellent automatic movement powering the watch is calibre 2572 PC, which was only produced between 1975 and 1978, so the watch is nearly 50 years old but looks as fresh as a daisy.
